Depression: What's The Role Of Testosterone? 💙
Jul 24, 2024In this video, I just want to shine a light on the role that testosterone may play in depression. Now, obviously, testosterone is associated with men, but it also plays a role in women. I'm going to look at women in a subsequent video, but in this video, let's concentrate on men. 💙
So it's of interest to note that testosterone levels, average testosterone levels in men in the Western world have been falling over time. It seems like they've been falling by about 1% per year. Now, that has several effects. The mental effects are... depression or mood swings, anxiety, nervousness, poor concentration or memory and fuzzy thinking. 💙
Well, that's interesting because obviously there's a link to depression in there. Depression rates over time have been increasing. Now, obviously, a lot can play into that, but I think it's quite interesting there's a correlation with falling testosterone levels and testosterone seeming to be protective against depression and as levels of testosterone have fallen, the levels of depression have risen. 💙
So I think that's a really interesting situation and it may be something to have a look in to if you're suffering from depression and you're a male. You can get testosterone tests and it may show you that yours is low. 💙
You may need testosterone replacement or there might be natural things that you can do to cope. I've only just started to scratch the surface on this, but I think it's a really interesting story. 💙
