What Is Psychotic Depression? π
Aug 06, 2024I just want to take a moment to talk about psychotic depression or depression with psychotic symptoms. This is actually a very extreme form of depression where the person has the normal symptoms of depression which are fatigue and disturbed sleep, overeating or under eating, a lack of taking pleasure in anything, being unable to concentrate, being indecisive, being irritated, being sad.π
Someone who's having psychotic depression will also have disturbances of their grasp of reality, they will have hallucinations and delusions, maybe paranoid thinking, things like that. I read that one in four people who are admitted to hospital in the UK for depression are admitted because of psychotic depression.π
So someone who's displaying evidence of having depression but also with hallucinations, delusions, hearing voices, maybe feeling paranoid, it's vital that they get treatment straight away.π
